Beyond Earth Game Requirements

It looks like Firaxis has finally revealed the minimum requirements that we’ll all need to be running Beyond Earth and it may be the case that some of us might need an upgrade! On the whole it’s not a big ask but it’s looking like the game is going to be quite GPU intensive, so here we are…

MINIMUM:
  • OS: Windows® Vista SP2/ Windows® 7
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz or AMD Athlon X2 64 2.0 GHz
  • Memory: 2 GB RAM
  • Graphics: 256 MB ATI HD3650 or better, 256 MB nVidia 8800 GT or better, or Intel HD 3000 or better integrated graphics
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Hard Drive: 8 GB available space
  • Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c‐compatible sound card
RECOMMENDED:
  • OS: Windows® Vista SP2 / Windows® 7
  • Processor: 1.8 GHz Quad Core CPU
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD HD5000 series or better, nVidia GT400 series or better, or Intel IvyBridge or better integrated graphics
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Hard Drive: 8 GB available space
  • Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c‐compatible sound card
Points worth noting here if you’re not big on reading this kind of information, is that the minimum graphics required is quite high (Nvidia 8800 GT along with DirectX11 is looking to be the minimum!). That said a modest amount of RAM is all that is necessary at 2GB, along with a processor of at least 1.8GHz 2 duo core. I think what many people will be considering is simply getting a new GPU, as I imagine most will already boast more than that kind of RAM and processing power.

Some might wonder why this is the case, since previous titles in this series were, in comparison, fairly easy to run. I think this is part down to Firaxis scrapping the ‘strategic view’ (y’know, that top down map that had no detail!) as there are some people out there that would play the game from the beginning this way to avoid the full graphics processing. Furthermore, if you check out some of the video content released so far, this version of Civ is looking quite pretty.

For further clarification on how your engine stacks up against the requirements there are plenty of websites out there which will do the comparison for you.
